Boston Celtics Defeat Nets And Extend Record To 5-0

In what was essentially the Celtics first really big test, they succeeded in defeating the New Jersey Nets 112-101. Division games are always important and despite how well the Celtics have been playing, if the Nets would have won, the Nets would have actually tied the Celtics for first. However, the Nets lost and the Celtics extended their division lead over the Nets. The victory was the fifth straight for Boston, which is off to its best start since winning six in a row to start the 1987-88 season. That was the last time the trio of Larry Bird, Kevin McHale and Robert Parish got to the Eastern Conference finals. However, the new "Big Three" of Garnett, Allen, and Pierce are (and this would make a great argument) actually better, or have the potential to be better, than the original Big Three.

Another story in this game was Vince Carter's injury. He had 17 points before leaving late in the third quarter with a sprained right ankle. The X-rays were negative, but he may miss a week in the worst case scenario...which is bad news if you're a Nets fan because the Nets will have the opportunity to take another crack at Boston on Wednesday, November 14th.

The original big three were all Hall of Famers and NBA champions. Of the current Big Three, only Garnett is headed to Springfield. I think it's a bit early to say that this new group is or has the potential to be better. They haven't even played half a season together.

This is a good point and I agree. Perhaps it is a little too early too compare these players to Hall of Famers, but it would be difficult to debate that this team is not the best team assembled since the days of... (I don't know, fill in the blank).

Every great players can easily play together. The big three prove that.
